August Club

I think this is the quickest I have gotten club posted.

This month it was all about back to school and teacher gifts.

Here is the recipe for the cookies that Jan made. If you did not make it to club, the secret ingredient is potato chips...yes potato chips.
Potato Chip Cookies

Servings: 6 doz. cookies
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients Add to grocery list

2 cups (4 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup sugar
3¼ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1½ cups coarsely crushed potato chips
¼ cup confectioner’s sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
In a large mixing bowl cream butter and sugar.  Slowly blend in flour and vanilla.  Add crushed potato chips and mix well.  Drop by rounded teaspoon, 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.  Using a fork, flatten each cookie slightly.  Bake 18-20 minutes, or until light brown around the edges.  Remove to wire rack to cool.  Sprinkle with confectioner’s sugar.
Notes From the Paula Deen Test Kitchen:  When using a fork to press cookies on baking sheet dip the fork in flour first and the batter will not stick to the fork. These cookies were sinfully delicious and disappeared as fast as we could bake them

*The recipe is from Paula Deen's Website

Jan, as usual shared some fun ideas.
This fun mug rug teacher subway art. I have other plans for this, if it works the way I want I will share it with you when I get it done.
This fun pocket was inspired by THIS post.
How about some lavender scent packs using dryer sheets? The little pillow that says so fresh is made out of a new dryer sheet. The little white pouch is made out of a used dryer sheet with lavender in it, and the pinkish colored one is made out of organza. Jan found the idea HERE
I love these fun key fobs that Sidney originally shared with us a few months ago and now Jan has stitched them out using school fabric and designs.
Teacher subway art...would be cute in a frame or as a notebook cover.
Jan picked up this chicken pick from Joann's and thought he was so cute that she digitized the chicken and made these fun pot holders.
Here is a watter botttle/coffee cozy. The tutorial can be found at Skip to my Lou.
Jan showed us how to cover a lamp shade and adding embroidery. The tutorial can be found at Urban Threads. Jan was able to find her lamp shades at Joann's on clearance and they had a removable template to make it easier to cut your pattern out.

This is Augusts block of the month.
How cute is this? No more getting up, walking across the room, ironing your project then walking back to your machine.  This is a wooden t.v. tray turned into a ironing board that can be placed next to your machine.
The tutorial for this can be found HERE. You can find these wooden trays at D.I. to buy for around 5.00 a piece or Walmart or Target have them in sets of 4 with a stand for about 60.00. Sometimes if you watch around thanksgiving or the day after Thanksgiving they will go on sale for 15.00-20.00 for the set.
Are you wondering what this is? It is called a birds nest tool set. Jan found hers from Design magazine, but they can be purchased at the shop or on amazon. These tools help get those nests of threads cleaned up between your hoop and machine.

Terrie made the adorable bag
